On the Arctic Circle just outside Rovaniemi stands the official Santa Claus Village, where Father Christmas receives visitors every day of the year, a painted line marks the Circle, and Santa's Main Post Office answers letters from around the world. When to go
December for the full Christmas magic, snow and the best chance of aurora; open year-round, but summer trades the snow for midnight sun. Peak Christmas weeks are crowded and dear, so book early.
Honest expectations
It is commercial and can be crowded and expensive, especially at Christmas, so go for the experience and the children rather than expecting understated charm. Many activities cost extra on top of free entry. In summer there is no snow, which changes the whole feel.
