When to go
October to April for the clearest mountain views, which are best after the monsoon, from October, and in winter; the monsoon summer often hides the peaks in cloud. Sunrise from Sarangkot is the classic mountain-viewing moment.
Honest expectations
The famous mountain views depend on clear weather and are often hidden by cloud or haze, especially outside the post-monsoon and winter months, so a clear day is a treat. The lakeside is touristy, geared to trekkers and relaxation, which is either restful or a little generic. It is, though, a beautiful, easygoing base and a welcome rest before or after a trek.
